To keep up with the requirements of this course, I have developed a set schedule that I follow each week. It includes watching the lectures each day they are recorded, and working on the weekly assignments each Thursday. I wait to comment on my group's blogs until Monday, to allow time for them to post. I try to maintain this schedule to the best of my abilities in order to create a feeling of order and structure.
2. Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving up." What pulled you through? Do you feel like you've developed a tenacious attitude during the past two months? What experience or experiences most contributed to this?
I traditionally do not succeed in classes that follow a hybrid or Online structure. It is very easy to fall off track with work, and to skip lectures when I'm not required to be there in person. I considered giving up after a few weeks of watching lectures from my laptop, but I toughened it out and stuck with it. I have developed an animosity toward Online Classes. I loathe them to the point of just getting the work done simply because I have to.
What are three tips you would offer next semester's student about (1) fostering the skills that support tenacity and (2) developing the 'tenacious mindset' ?
1. If you can attend the live lecture, GO. You retain a lot more information if you are in the room.
2. Do your job. You took this class for a reason, don't procrastinate, just get it done.
3. Be the best. You're going to be competing against everyone here for jobs after college, make sure to separate yourself from the pack.
Hey Greg,
ReplyDeleteI’m impressed with how well-organized you are. I don’t think I’m much of a schedule-type person and I feel like this trait is becoming a hindrance in getting things done. Your three tips actually speak to me. They remind me of how enthusiastic I was to be enrolled in this class in the beginning of the semester and I feel much more motivated to put more effort into this class.
Greg,
ReplyDeleteThe schedule you set for yourself is extremely impressive. I don't set one for myself but have times I set aside to do work for this class and the others I am in so kudos for you sticking to this schedule. I agree with you that online classes can be annoying and you can easily fall behind in them if you aren't diligent in your work. I think your post was well done and wouldn't advise you to change anything.
Hi Greg,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Logan and April that your ability to stick to a strict schedule shows your discipline for the class. I agree with you on the challenges of the typical hybrid or online classes and it has taken me a few times around to get used to the structure. Your tips for success are absolutely going to help achieve success in this course.
I certainly can agree with your opinion on online courses. For me I've yet to actively benefit from online courses and they seem to yield more shady practices than productive ones. Searching for online quizlets due to the course not being updated/maintained and the like show up more in the students than actually studying. It's good that you've got a strict schedule for getting through the class. As some would say, it builds character. Keep at it.
